Finding Magna Residents
There is no unrestricted official list of every person living in Magna. A sound search labels the record before using it. The Assessor is an ownership and tax source. The Recorder indexes instruments such as deeds, liens, plats, and releases. A voter result reflects registration fields, not every person in a home. A Polk volume may identify a dated householder, business, or street entry. Court data describes a case party, and a professional license may use a business or mailing address.
Use the strongest starting point you have. A current address points to the Salt Lake County Assessor and Parcel Viewer. A historical surname points to the J. Willard Marriott Digital Library, Utah State Archives, newspapers, and cemetery records. A public office or organization points to Magna agendas, staff contacts, Commerce, DOPL, or ChamberWest. Missing from one result is not proof that a person never lived there.
- Run the Salt Lake County Assessor search by owner, address autocomplete, or parcel number, and save the parcel identifier and record date.
- Use Utah Voter Search only for self-verification or a clearly authorized purpose, distinguishing its person form from any bulk data request.
- Search the Recorder index with the parcel or address, then note the instrument type, recording date, parties, and book, page, or entry reference.
- For an earlier household, search the Polk collection’s alphabetical, householder or street, and classified sections, then compare the year with newspapers or cemetery sources.
- If a needed record is not online, send a narrow GRAMA request to the office that holds that record rather than asking an agency to create a new list.
Magna Records Offices
Magna records sit across city, county, district, and state custodians. The Salt Lake County Recorder is the place for recorded instruments and title-search guidance. The Assessor provides the owner, address, and parcel entry points. Salt Lake County Elections handles voter questions and county lists. Utah Courts, Vital Records, State Archives, and state licensing agencies cover separate record families. The city staff directory helps route a question to the municipal clerk, GIS, planning, building, licensing, court, or contracted service.

Current Magna Resident Sources
Current Magna resident research works best as a set of limited records, not a white-pages roll. The Assessor can expose a published owner and parcel context. The voter person and address forms are designed around registration lookup and require JavaScript, while bulk voter data follows a separate request and fee path. The official city staff directory lists public roles and contact channels, not private households. Court, license, business, and custody systems answer still narrower questions.
| Source | Who It Lists | Keeper | Access |
|---|---|---|---|
| Property and tax roll | Published owner, parcel, property context | Salt Lake County Assessor | Free portal |
| Voter self-search | Registration information for the entered voter or address | Utah Elections | Public fields, privacy limits |
| Recorded-document index | Parties to deeds, liens, plats, and releases | County Recorder | Free search, paid copies or data units |
| Magna staff directory | Public officials and service contacts | City of Magna | Free online |
| Professional license data | Licensee name, city, profession, status | Utah DOPL | Free lookup |
Use the property source for an address or ownership question, the voter source for a voter’s own check, and the Recorder when a document reference matters. For one-person matching, the Magna resident lookup workflow keeps these meanings separate. A business or professional connection belongs in Commerce or DOPL, and a public official belongs in city pages or agendas.
Magna Property Search Fields
The current Salt Lake County Assessor entry page keeps the first search plain. Enter an owner last name and first name, choose an address from autocomplete, or use the parcel-number pattern shown by the portal. Search and Reset controls make it possible to test one clue at a time. The legacy form adds street and block controls when an older or partial address is the better lead.
| Owner | Last name and first name fields on the current search |
|---|---|
| Address | Autocomplete selection for the property location |
| Parcel number | Pattern shown as 00-00-000-000-0000 |
| Legacy address | Frontage, direction, street name and number, type, and direction |
| Result path | Search, sort a list, then open the property detail |
Read the result as a property record. It may include a published owner, property location, land and structure fields, values, tax district, or map context. It does not turn the address into a complete household list.
The Salt Lake County Assessor page is the correct official entry for these fields.
Use the result to anchor later Recorder or map work, while keeping owner and occupant as separate labels.
What Utah Voter Records Reveal
Utah voter records are generally public in selected fields, but the rule is not the same as an open resident directory. The default public fields can include name, physical and mailing addresses, age range, party affiliation, and vote history. Vote history means elections participated in, not ballot choices. Date of birth, driver-license or state-ID number, Social Security number, email, and phone are not publicly shared under the privacy information published by the state.
At-Risk classification can protect victims or threatened people, qualifying co-residents, law enforcement, people covered by protective orders, armed forces members, public figures, and others named by the state process. The withholding form asks for identity and contact details, a category, supporting explanation when required, and a signature. It may go to the county clerk or Lieutenant Governor by mail, email, or in person.
The Utah voter privacy information page shows the categories and public-field boundary used for a Magna search.
Address confidentiality is a practical reason a public search may not return the person or location expected, and the substitute-address model should be respected.
Magna Names in the Deed Index
A recorded-document index can connect a person to a property event without proving that the person lived there. Search the Salt Lake County Recorder public index by address or parcel after accepting its terms. A result can lead to a deed, lien, easement, plat, release, or other instrument. Note the party names, document type, recording date, book and page or entry reference before deciding whether an image or certified copy is needed.
The county says current online search reaches back to Book 262, Page 1, Entry 899028, recorded March 1, 1941. A digitization project is working toward older vault records back to 1850. Free search, paid data services, and document requests are different products. The Recorder’s office says documents recorded before 2:00 p.m. are typically available the next working day, while plats may take longer.
Magna Council Names and Records
For public roles, civic decisions, and people who spoke at a meeting, use Magna’s official City Council and Agenda Center pages. The Agenda Center offers a time-period filter, start and end dates, search terms, category selection, year navigation, and Agenda, Minutes, Media, and Download actions. The observed year navigation includes 2026, 2025, and 2024, with older years under View More such as 2023 and 2022.
The City Council page places meetings at 6:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays at the Webster Center, 8952 W Magna Main Street. A named speaker or appointee is a civic-record connection, not evidence of residence. Date the page and keep the role separate from a private-person search.
The Magna Agenda Center is the official starting point for meeting records, including the search controls and document rows shown here.
Agenda records can help identify a public action or official role while keeping the search tied to a dated municipal source.
Business and License Connections
When a Magna name is tied to a business, move to the Utah Department of Commerce rather than treating a registered office as a home. The state links Business Entity List, Business Entity Search, Registered Principal Search, UCC/CFS Search, trademark, and certificate routes. Entity details may show legal name, status, principal, agent, filing history, and address fields as exposed by the record.
DOPL’s License Verification portal offers Name and Profession and License Number tabs. A result structure described in state material includes licensee name, city, profession, license number, and status. The ZIP-capable real-estate data request costs $5 for the first 200 records and $0.03 for each additional record, but it returns license-address data, not a resident roll. Cityworks is the route for Magna building and business-license applications, permits, inspections, results, comments, and certificates; no public searchable municipal license register was located.
Open the official DOPL License Verification before relying on a license match. The captured interface emphasizes the name, profession, and number search paths.
A license result is a credential record. It is useful for checking a professional connection, not for inferring a home address or current residence.
Privacy Paths for Magna Records
Some missing names are missing for a good reason. Utah Safe at Home uses a substitute address and mail-forwarding model for eligible participants, while voter withholding can shield qualifying records. Vital records also have access thresholds: death certificates reach a general public threshold after 50 years, birth records after 100 years, and other vital events after 75 years. Earlier certified access needs a qualifying relationship or another statutory basis under Utah Code §26B-8-125.
Use records with care. Magna records support lawful personal, family-history, property, and civic research. Do not use a name or address to stalk, harass, intimidate, or harm anyone.
Four Terms That Prevent Mix-Ups
Record language matters because similar names can describe very different relationships to Magna.
- Roll
- A maintained list for a defined purpose, such as property assessment or voter registration.
- Index
- A pointer to a record, often with names, dates, and a reference number, not always the full image.
- Parcel
- A mapped piece of land identified by a county number and legal description.
- Criss-cross directory
- A historical directory arranged by street or address so a householder can be found from a place.
Why Old Magna Names Shift
Historical searches need more than the current city label. Farmers established Pleasant Green in 1868. D.C. Jackling’s Utah Copper Company built the Magna Mill in 1906, Boston Consolidated built a second mill in 1909, and the operations merged into the Arthur Mill by 1911. Neighborhood terms such as Greektown, Japantown, Snaketown, Little Italy, and Ragtown may appear in older sources.
Postmaster Renald Woolley petitioned for the name Magna in 1914, and the name was officially adopted October 19, 1915. Magna became a city in May 2024, so records from the township, unincorporated, CDP, and current-city periods should retain the label used at the time. The Magna city directory collections page follows that historical shelf in detail.
Historical Magna Directories
The J. Willard Marriott Digital Library search confirms Polk volumes that include Magna in the title, description, or Salt Lake Valley suburb coverage. Observed runs include 1928, 1929–1935, 1936–1942, 1944, 1946, 1948, 1949, 1951, 1952, 1957–1960, 1960–1973, and 1974–1980, with coverage varying by volume. Search the alphabetical section, householders or street guide, and classified section separately.
A directory year can show a dated householder, address, occupation, business, or organization entry. It cannot prove present occupancy or ownership. The Salt Lake County Library’s Magna branch at 2675 S 8950 W offers genealogy help and Ancestry Library Edition, while its Digital Library links Utah NewsSearch and Utah Digital Newspapers. Check the dedicated city-directory page for the full collection path.
